I re-lived my childhood

I re-lived my childhood

This is a travelogue to Mumbai. It would not have been the same had it been without my niece Ananya. A trip to any place would generally include going to hills or beaches. But this time it was different. It is not that Mumbai does not have beaches. We visited marine drive and chilled out at Juhu as well. But these were not the high points of the trip.

It so happened that one of her friends, on knowing that she is visiting Mumbai, told her about two fairylands in Mumbai- Adlabs Imagica and Essel World, in the same order of preference. Now, once something gets into her head, it’s hard to get that out. From the moment we landed, all she wanted was to go to these amusement parks. I resisted because I had never been to any of those. Also, secretly I had googled these places and thought they were too expensive. I felt it would be insane to spend so much on something that I think so lowly of.
But in the end, Ananya had to win. That is how it always ends. I had to relinquish. We had a pact that we would go to one of the amusement parks. We went to Essel world as it was closer to the place we were put up. Once inside, I was amazed by what the place had to offer. I don’t think I ever had so much fun in a day. We jumped, we swam, we ran, we fell, we laughed, we screamed, we cried, It was literally a roller coaster ride. The cute smile on Ananya’s face was the icing on the cake.
After that day, I was more excited to go to Adlabs Imagica. Ananya was always ready. This place was just the expanded version of the previous park. Rides were bigger and scarier. This all meant wider smile on Ananya’s face.
Today, when I look back, I feel that I relived my childhood in those days. More than that, I did things that I missed out on during my childhood days. I grew up watching the advertisement of Essel world on Doordarshan. Now I could relate to their tagline those days- ‘Essel world mein rahunga me, ghar nhi jaunga me’. These places are so addictive. But you have to be a kid, to enjoy these. Hence a trip to these places makes no sense without a kid. A group of grownups would sulk in some corner and discuss about work life. In fact the best of rides were those, which I decided not to go, but then I was eventually dragged by Ananya. Also, without her I would have been terrified by most of these rides. She was my source of encouragement. I always thought to myself- “If she can do it, so can I”.
