Corruption finally makes its way to Gandhi family, Robert Vadra accused by IAC

For the first time the waves of corruption have engulfed Gandhi family. Gandhi family had successfully maintained safe distance from power and corruption till now. With serious corruption charges in land deals against Robert Vadra, son-in-law of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, for the first time credibility of Gandhi family has been put to question. India Against Corruption(IAC) members Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhusan have alleged that Robert Vadra’s wealth grew from Rs 50 lakhs to more than Rs 300 crores in last three years.

The duo alleged that in the last four years,Vadra has been on a property buying spree and has purchased atleast 31 properties. Most of these deals were centred around congress ruled states of Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana. They also added that DLF has provided Vadra a loan of 65 crores at no interest. He also got many DLF properties at throw away prices. So what did DLF get in return. This could be the reason why DLF was given huge chunk of land in Haryana with undue haste.

These allegations have created furore in political arena. Congress has strongly discarded these allegations terming these baseless and demanding proofs. Congress has full right to defend its state governments, but its defense for Robert Vadra falls completely out of place as Vadra is not a part of congress party. While India Against Corruption must come out with some strong evidence to substantiate these allegations, there has to be some truth behind these allegation.

Anna Hazare who recently parted ways with Arvind and IAC has challenged congress to come out clean. He has simply demanded a thorough probe into the allegations and has urged for stern actions against Vadra if found guilty. He has dared government to prove Kejriwal wrong and punish him with defamation lawsuit. With all the scams in the news, this latest development can be the last straw that breaks the camel’s back. IAC couldn’t have accused Vadra without proper homework.

WakeIndiaNow came across a story carried by Economic Times on 14th march titled Robert Vadra ties up with DLF, makes low-key entry into Real estate business  which pointed out-

DLF has given loans to Vadra ‘s companies

DLF has also extended loans to various companies owned by Vadra. Some of these are unsecured loans or debt without any collateral. As on March 2009, Sky Light Hospitality had received unsecured loans amounting to Rs 25 crore from DLF Ltd. As on March 2010, only Rs 10 crore remained. It ‘s unclear from the statement of accounts if the rest was paid back or written off. Sky Light Hospitality has, in turn, loaned money to other Vadraowned companies such as Blue Breeze Trading Pvt Ltd, North India IT Parks Pvt Ltd, Real Earth Estates Pvt Ltd and Sky Light Realty Pvt Ltd.

Blue Breeze Trading, a company incorporated in 2007 with Vadra and his wife Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as first directors and equal shareholders, is in the business of chartering aircraft. The company, however, seems to have done little business, apart from acquiring agricultural land. Priyanka Gandhi ceased to be a director as on July 2008. She is no longer a shareholder. Real Earth Estates Pvt Ltd also had a Rs 5 crore loan directly from DLF on its books as on March 2010.

The joint venture firm Saket Courtyard Hospitality had received Rs 3.58 crore of unsecured loans from DLF Hotel Holdings Ltd, the group company that owned 50% stake in the JV. “The business relationship of DLF Group with Robert Vadra has been in his capacity as an individual entrepreneur and on a completely transparent and armslength basis.
