My name is Khan, that doesn’t mean I am a Terrorist

–>

Terrorists have no religion.Terrorism is not the monopoly of any religion and more unity is required among people who stand up against it than the unity is among the people who carry it out.

I accept the fact that most of the serial bomb blasts; 9/11 (in America); 26/11 has been carried out by terrorist groups (which had muslim members) but how on earth does that rationalise that every Muslim is a terrorist. What logic can one give for detaining and convicting a person without any reason or evidence , just because he/she follows a particular religion.

Disappearances and illegal detentions have become rampant in the name of fighting terrorism. It is as if a new wave of counter terrorism has been launched to terrorize the youths belonging to this particular community. We talk of secularism and right of equality democracy; then why cases like this comes into the picture ?

Since 26/11, several Muslim youths has been detained and harassed for no real reason, with no evidence to prove them guilty. And this has been carried out by the anti-terrorist squads, intelligence agencies and police department.

–>

Shaukat Ali, a teacher and a resident of Pratapgarh, said that he was being harassed by the security agencies since August 2008. He has been questioned several times by the police; no evidence has been found so far which would prove him guilty. But, the questioning by police has made him a ‘real-suspect’ in the eyes of his students and neighbours, leading to humiliation social disgrace. He had lodged complaint with higher authorities but no remedial action has been taken so far.

–>

Lawyer Mohammed Shoeb, who is fighting cases of Muslim youths facing terror charges, said, “Even after acquittal, youth are seen with suspiscion by the society, spoiling their career and life at large. “

–> Whats most alarming is that security agencies often round up innocent people on false charges for awards and promotion. If you have suspicion, you can interrogate them, find evidence against those people to prove them guilty but it shouldn’t hamper their personal lives until  and unless they are proved guilty according to the law of our nation.

Above all, Terrorists have no religion.Terrorism is not the monopoly of any religion and more unity is required among people who stand up against it than the unity is among the people who carry it out.

We as people cannot stop terrorism neither can we fight it. But the onus of clearing the haze from the motives is in our hands.
