Majority of Indians have well realized Mamata’s uncanny ways to garner political mileage and she has thus become a popular choice for cartoonists. If everyone who ever commented or shared those cartoons is penalized, half of the India would be behind bars.
If you came here thinking India was one of the biggest democracy in the world, well once you have read this, you might as well question the validity of India’s democracy. When the thin line between democracy and autocracy is bridged, lawlessness and anarchy is bound to follow. In a shocking development, a Jadavpur University professor was arrested today for allegedly posting a cartoon on the internet showing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in poor light after she forced out Dinesh Trivedi and put Mukul Roy in his place as Railway minister.
Arrest of Ambikesh Mohapatra, a Chemistry professor early today sparked of widespread resentment and anger amongst politicians and educationists alike. Protests were held by students in Kolkata and in several other parts of India.
DCP (south suburban division) Sujay Chanda said that professor was arrested along with a neighbor residing in east Jadavpur for spreading derogatory messages against “respectable persons” on a popular social networking site. Mohapatra was charged with IPC offenses relating to defamation and insulting the modesty of women as well as cyber crime offenses, Police said.
The cartoon in question is nothing but an innocent expression of thoughts and that too based on factual developments. Arresting a professor that too of the stature of Mr. Mohapatra is a clear assassination of democracy in West Bengal. This is the same country were it takes months to arrest culprits of multicrore scams like A Raja and Kalmadi, while law abiding citizens like professor Mahopatra are put behind the bars in no time.
For those who saw Sibal’s proposal to monitor contents of facebook and twitter as whimsical, here ‘Didi’ has actually made it happen. The message is loud and clear; if you have to live peacefully in West Bengal; do what Mamta wants you to do and think what she wants you to think. If you ever displease the TMC supremo, you might land up in jail in no time. While worst of monarchy in the world, would never have witnessed this, politicians have yet again ashamed us by setting up a bad example.
There is no denying the fact that Mamta Banarjee has been involved in some of the biggest political stunts in Indian history. Induction of Mukul Roy as Railway Minister replacing Dinesh Trivedi was one of them. Majority of Indians have well realized Mamata’s uncanny ways to garner political mileage and she has thus become a popular choice for cartoonists. If everyone who ever commented or shared those cartoons is penalized, half of the India would be behind bars.
WakeIndiaNow takes pride to have first reported ulterior motives behind removal of Mr Trivedi and today we stand vindicated. We also shared this picture on our facebook page then and we feel ‘fortunate’ that Mamta Banarjee didn’t notice it.
Though the professor was later released on bail, but he has to live with the social stigma associated with it for life-time.While campaigning against railway fare hike, Mamata advocated that she was campaigning for ‘aam admi’. But her present act proves beyond doubt that she is one of the most shrewd politician in the Indian history.
Now, its upto the voting public of India to pay her in the same coin.
Its NOW or NEVER!!
