It is not that , Dravid’s performance kept him out of the ODI team for so long, but, more of selectors’ and captain’s obsession to have a young and energetic team. Rahul dravid has had a healthy strike rate and has amassed a phenomenol 10,765 runs with an average of about 40, playing for the Indian team in ODIs.
When Rahul Dravid’s name did not feature in the 30 probables of the world cup-2011. Cricket pundits suggested Dravid’s era is gone and he should announce his retirement. But, “the wall” remained strong as ever, never spoke a thing in public, was patient throughout, which reflects in his batting style as well. Dravid waited for this opportunity and earned it with dignity.
When all the Indian Batsmen are finding the English seam bowlers hot-to-handle, Dravid has hammered two centuries back to back. So far , Dravid has been the only batsman who looks like an international cricketer, others have been playing school cricket in England.
The reward has obviously come late but, it is most deserved. Dravid gets his due . Though, it would be interesting to see what role he is given by the team management. As, Sehwag-Sachin open the innings and Gambhir is the regular 1-down batsman in ODIs for sometime now.
But, surely his presence gives stability to the team.
Its NOW or NEVER!!
