After a lack lusture West-Indies tour, all eyes were set on the upcoming India-England series.Though, the serial Mumbai blasts have stolen the spotlight for now. May Mumbai be safe and energetic as ever.
In this series, Sachin is ofcourse the danger man for England, as in every other series. But, since Sehwag will not make it to the first and second test, it is Dravid who has an added responsibility in his absence. Mr. Wall will have to consolidate the innings if the opening pair fails. Rahul Dravid is back in runs, and he with Laxman proved that it is experience and class which matters most in test cricket.
Good news for India, though, is Zaheer is fit and back in the squad, and Ishant Sharma,Indian pace spearhead, breathes fire at the moment since he is back in wickets now. But, the one I will be watching closely is Sreesanth. With his ability to swing the ball both ways at pace, he would trouble the Englishmen if he goes on song. A cricket journalist recently wrote ” With Sreesanth , its not about his ability but his temperament ,which matters most.”
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh has joined the elite club of 400 test wicket takers. Though he has not been getting enough media coverage, and he justifiably cries foul. He has not been performing upto our expectations, not because he has become a lesser player but because we expect him to take 5 wicket in every inning he plays….ridiculous!!
One can only imagine , how difficult it would be for a captain to choose one out of Yuvraj and Raina. Such is the bench strength of Indian team these days, though Raina has made his candidature stronger by scoring a half century in each test in west-indies tour.
This Indian side is undoubtedly the best bunch of players traveling to England. At the moment, Indian squad seems to have a clear edge in this series.
Its NOW or NEVER!!
